🌀 How to Set Up Your Disc-Bound Faith Planner: A Simple Guide for Caregivers and Medical Moms

(Featuring the Devotional Planner – Caregiver Edition)

You have downloaded your planner. You have printed your pages. You’re holding a stack of possibilities... but now what?

If you’re a caregiver or medical mom juggling therapy schedules, appointment notes, and what feels like 74 different logins, you need a planner that’s not just pretty—it needs to work FOR you.

That’s why I created the Devotional Planner – Caregiver Edition with a disc-bound system in mind. It’s flexible, easy to rearrange, and endlessly customizable. And best of all? You don’t have to be a Pinterest-perfect planner girl to pull it off.

Let’s walk through setting it up—one easy step at a time.

🧰 Step 1: Gather Your Planner-Building Supplies

Here’s what you’ll need to get started: A nice quiet space with room to spread out your supplies, and some nice peaceful praise and worship music.

Essentials:

  • Printed pages of your Faith+Life Planner

  • Disc-bound hole punch (Happy Planner or Levenger-compatible)

  • Planner discs (metal or plastic, 1”–1.5” is usually perfect)

  • Sturdy paper – I recommend 28–32 lb for smooth writing and durability. It is also helpful to use cardstock for covers and dividers.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Laminator – for covers and dashboards, (otherwise you can take them to your local office supply store or other local place with a laminator.)

  • Corner rounder – optional, but makes everything feel so polished

  • Paper trimmer or scissors

  • Tabs, sticky notes, washi tape, stickers, and colored pens for customizing

🛒 Pro tip: Keep an extra punch and set of discs on hand in case a page needs to be replaced or added later.

✂ Step 2: Prep Your Pages

Before punching, take a moment to:

  • Sort your pages by section: calendar, planning pages, caregiving logs, faith journaling, etc.

  • Print front & back (duplex) if your printer allows, or keep single-sided for maximum flexibility

  • Make sure all your pages are facing the correct direction—trust me, we’ve all punched a few upside-downs 🙃

đŸ”„ Step 3: Punch + Assemble

Using your disc-bound punch, go section by section. Punch small batches (5–7 pages) at a time if using heavier paper.

Then, assemble your planner in the order you choose. An example order is below:

  1. Covers (laminated front & back)

  2. Year-at-a-Glance Calendars (2025 + 2026)

  3. Emergency Info & Contacts

  4. Vision Board + Long-Term Goals

  5. Monthly / Weekly / Daily Pages

  6. Faith Section – Scripture Writing, Devotions, Sermon Notes

  7. Caregiver Section – Medical info, meds, symptoms, appointments

  8. Finance & Budget

  9. Meal Planning + Groceries

  10. Health & Fitness

  11. Self-Care Section

  12. Bonus: Dashboards, Dividers, Bookmarks

🧡 Step 4: Customize It for Your Life

Your life isn’t cookie-cutter. Your planner shouldn’t be either.

  • Add tabs or dividers for sections you’ll use the most

  • Use sticky notes for prayer requests, doctor questions, or quick reminders

  • Create a “This Week” dashboard with dry erase laminate or a reusable insert

  • Keep a small pocket envelope inside for receipts, appointment cards, or emergency chocolate đŸ«

🙏 Add a touch of faith: Place a favorite verse or affirmation on the first page as a reminder of Who is guiding your steps.

✹ Bonus Tips from One Caregiver to Another

  • Keep your punch + a few extra pages nearby for easy updates

  • Leave blank pages in high-use sections like “Notes from Appointments”

  • Use color coding for family members, medical vs personal tasks, etc. (This one is extemely helpful for me)

  • Don’t try to make it pretty—make it peaceful

  • Grace > Perfection. Always.
