✨ My Favorite Things: All Things Planner Supplies

Welcome to February, aka the month of all things love! 💛 So in the spirit of that, I’m sharing some of my most-loved planner supplies. These are the tools and favorites that I personally use to build and customize my disc-bound planner system.

🗂️ Choosing Your Binding System

There are a few ways to put together a printable planner:

3-Ring Binder: Easy and budget-friendly, but bulky and not very customizable.
Spiral Binding: Often done at an office supply store, but it limits flexibility.
Disc-Bound (my favorite!): Think Happy Planner-style. It’s sleek, flexible, and allows you to rearrange or replace pages anytime.

Disc-bound planning is perfect for real life—especially if your schedule shifts constantly (like mine!).

Let’s Talk Supplies

🖨️ Home Printer

I use the HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e.
The best part? HP Instant Ink, a subscription service that automatically sends you ink before you run out. It’s super cost-effective if you print a lot (like planner pages!).

📄 Printer Paper

Regular paper wears out quickly. I recommend using at least 24 lb paper, but I personally prefer Hammermill 32 lb for most planner pages and cardstock for covers and dividers. It’s sturdier and holds up well to flipping, writing, and moving pages.

🔒 Laminator

I love swapping out my covers with seasons, so I laminate them myself using 10 mil pouches. It makes them durable and long-lasting. You can laminate at home or at a print shop, either works! (Bonus: a laminator is great for chore charts, memory cards, and more if you're a busy mom or teacher.)

🕳️ Disc-Bound Hole Punch

Also called a “mushroom punch”, this is a must if you want to add or rearrange pages often. I’ve used an ARC punch from Staples (they may no longer carry it), but there are many great options online or in-store.

💿 Discs

Available in plastic or metal, small or large, and tons of cute colors.

📁 Dividers + Tabs

You’ll want to separate your planner into sections. I love printing dividers on cardstock and adding tabs, but you can also find printable disc-bound dividers in my shop, or pre-made plastic ones online.

My Writing Must-Haves

✒️ Frixion Erasable Pens & Markers

Frixion Erasable Pens and Markers are the only ones I use in my planner! I love the clean look and the flexibility of being able to erase mistakes or make changes. They come in a wide variety of colors and styles, pens, highlighters, and markers.

⚠️ A quick note: Frixion erasable products, are able to erase by using friction, (heat). I’ve been using Frixion products for years, and never had issues, but I recommend not leaving your planner in a hot car or direct sun for really long periods just to be safe! I have read that you can restore the ink by placing it in the refrigerator. One day I’ll test that out!
