My Top 3 Reasons For Using A Disc-Bound Planner As A Medical Mo
Share
I was overwhelmed with paperwork, insurance calls, medications, and it was almost impossiible to keep track of everything. Every time I was in a store with a planner section or saw an ad for a new planner I was hooked. I LOVE planners. But loving planners wasn't enough to help me get my chaos under control.
Each time I found a new planner, I hoped it would be "The One" to finally manage my chaos. Still, couldnt seem to fit everything that I needed to manage all the "things" as a medical mom. I desperately wanted to have everything neat and in order, but there was so much more that I needed.
Here's the problem. I was trying to make a typical planner work for my "Medical Mom Life", and the truth is, as a medical mom, my life is far from typical. My needs were constantly changing along with my child's needs. I needed to find a way to make my planner flexible enought to change along with me.
Then a friend invited me to check out a printable planner she had been using. It had a lot of the flexibility I was looking for! By using a printable planner with a disc-bound system, I was able to change layouts and pages anytime I needed to. For awhile I thought I had found "MY" planner, but I was still finding so many things that I still needed from my planner that were not there.
Finally, God spoke to me through the voice of a friend. The answer was clear, but time-consuming. MAKE YOUR OWN PLANNERS. Use the experience and knowledge I have learned, and combine it with my love for creating things. Use the experiences God has brought me through to help other moms and caregivers.
Here are the top 3 reasons I use (and love!) a disc-bound planner as a medical mom:
1. Flexibility to Customize for My Family’s Needs
Unlike traditional spiral or bound planners, a disc-bound system allows me to pop pages in and out as often as I need. On any given week, I may need:
-
Appointment logs for specialists
-
Medication trackers
-
Therapy notes
-
Insurance call records
-
Faith journaling pages
With discs, I don’t have to carry around a bulky, one-size-fits-all planner. Instead, I can build a planner that fits me, and my life. I can easily add pages when needed and remove them when things settle down. This flexibility keeps me organized without adding extra stress.
2. Durability That Keeps Up With Daily Life
Let’s be honest—caregiving is not an easy job. My planner has been thrown in bags, hauled to appointments, balanced on clipboards in waiting rooms, and even spilled on more times than I’d like to admit. Because disc-bound planners allow for sturdy covers and durable inserts, mine has held up beautifully. (And if I do spill something on a page, I can always reprint it if I want to!)
The discs themselves are strong, and unlike traditional binders, they don’t snag or break easily. For a medical mom constantly on the go, that kind of durability is worth gold.
They are not indestructible, but if you do have a problem, it is easy to replace a page or cover any time I need to. My planner goes everywhere with me. In and out of my purse or backpack multiple times a day.
3. I can be creative if I want to be.
Disc-bound Planners also to my creative side, in that I can change out the covers, or dividers any time. New Season - New Cover, New Mood - New Cover! I am truly in control of what my planner looks like, what's inside, and how it is organized. I can add my own creative touches so that my planner truly reflects who I am. I can include all the caregiving things I need, and also include space to express my faith, through scripture writing, devotional pages, sermon notes, and whatever else my heart desires.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been searching for a planning system that can adapt to the ever-changing world of caregiving, I can’t recommend disc-bound planners enough. They’re more than just paper and discs—they’re a reminder that even in the busiest seasons, God provides tools to help us carry the load with grace. What things do you look for in a planner?
